El meu BY THE BOOK

What books are on your night stand now?
Víctor Català’s Un film (3000 metres), Xavier Ayén’s Aquellos años del boom, Sara Mesa’s Un incendio invisible, and John Grisham’s The firm (Grisham is my teacher of English).
What’s the last great book you read?
Sara Mesa’s Cicatriz.
What’s your all-time favorite book?
Gonzalo Torrente Ballester’s La saga/fuga de JB. I also loved Rudyard Kipling’s Kim.
What’s the best classic novel you recently read for the first time?
Vargas Llosa’s Los cachorros (Los cachorros is a classic?).
What’s your favorite book no one else has heard of?
Gonzalo Torrente Ballester’s La saga/fuga de JB.
Wich writers – novelist, playwrights, critics, journalists, poets – working today do you admire most?
I most admire Vila-Matas, Sara Mesa. And of course, Quim Monzó.
What’s the last book that made you laugh?
Victor Nubla’s Les investigacions del cap Pendergast.
The last book that made you furious?
Carles Porta’s Li deien pare.
Which genres do you especially enjoy reading And which do you avoid?
I most like novels and short stories, and most dislike how-to’s.
How do you like to read? Paper or electronic? One book at a time or simultaneously? Morning or night?
I like reading a real book, hardcover or paperback. Multiple books at once. I read primarily at night. Every evening I read until I fall asleep, at around midnight or 1 a.m.
How do you organize your books?
One beside the other!
What’s de best book you’ve ever received as a gift?
Rudyard Kipling’s Kim
What kind of reader were you as a child? Wich childhood books and authors stick with you most?
My very favorite book was The Prince and the Pauper, by Mark Twain. I loved L’home dels gats, byJosep Vallverdú. I was an avid reader of The Adventures of Asterix, by Goscinny (written by) and Uderzo (illustrated by) and Le petit Nicolas, by Goscinny (created by) and Sempé (illustrated by).
You’re organizing a literary dinner party. Wich three writers, dead or alive, do you invite?
Gonzalo Torrente Ballester, Rudyard Kipling and Shakespeare (or whoever wrote Shakespeare’s plays). Moderator, Quim Monzó.
